Something has fallen away. We have lost something of ourselves, our history, what we once were. That something, if we are to face it, look it squarely in the eyes, terrifies us, makes us wretched. This is the horror of the abject.<\/span><\/h2>\n

The latest instalment of Comma Press’ award-winning modern horror series – which includes the\u00a0Phobic<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0New Uncanny<\/em>\u00a0anthologies –\u00a0The New Abject<\/em>\u00a0asks leading authors to produce new stories that respond to that a psychological concept of horror: Julia Kristeva\u2019s theory of the abject.<\/p>\n

The abject covers bodily functions that are deemed impure or inappropriate, and aspects of the body that transgress and threaten our sense of propriety. The result: unforgettable stories that will cause unease and discomfort in-keeping with the traditions of great horror literature and film.<\/p>\n

Join us for the launch of this new anthology, hosted by\u00a0Andy Murray<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0who will be in conversation with contributing authors\u00a0Ramsey Campbell<\/a>, Matthew Holness<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Lucie McKnight Hardy<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

ABOUT THE AUTHORS<\/p>\n

Ramsey Campbell\u00a0<\/strong>is described by the Oxford Companion to English Literature as \u2018Britain\u2019s most respected living horror writer\u2019. His many award-winning novels include The Face That Must Die<\/em>, Incarnate<\/em>, and most recently The Overnight<\/em> (PS Publishing). He reviews regularly for BBC Radio Merseyside.<\/p>\n

Matthew Holness<\/strong> won the Perrier Comedy Award in 2001 for Garth Marenghi’s Netherhead, and has since appeared in The Office, Casanova and Ricky Gervais’ Cemetery Junction. He was the creator and star of two Channel 4 comedy shows – Garth Marenghi’s Darkplace and Man to Man With Dean Learner – and starred in the C4 series, Free Agents. In 2018 his directorial debut feature film, Possum was released, based on the short story of the same name which Holness contributed to The New Uncanny<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Lucie McKnight Hardy’s<\/strong> stories have featured in various publications, including Best British Short Stories 2019<\/em>, Black Static<\/em>, The Lonely Crowd<\/em>, and as a limited edition chapbook from Nightjar Press. Her debut novel, Water Shall Refuse Them<\/em> (Dead Ink Books, 2019), was shortlisted for the Mslexia Novel Competition 2017 and longlisted for the Caledonia Novel Award 2018.
