Every day this week, in advance of opening our submission window for 2021\/22, we are profiling our 6 Academicians of 2020\/2021. Meet S.K. Perry.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"I am the author of Let Me Be Like Water<\/em> (Melville House), which was longlisted for the Ondaatje Prize, and selected for City Reads’ Big Read at the Brighton Festival. It is a lyric novel exploring grief in young adulthood, as well as food, sex, friendship, and the sea. My short story A Wide Neon Yell<\/em> won the Berlin Writing Prize, and was published by Klag Verlag in The Circus<\/em>, an anthology of the shortlisted entries. I was commissioned to write and record The Treehouse<\/em>\u00a0for BBC Radio 4’s Short Works series, and had a selection of poems commissioned by Spread the Word as part of a writing residency in Soho, and published by them as Curious Hands<\/em>. I am currently studying for a PhD in creative writing with funding from the AHRC, exploring crip time, embodiment, climate crisis, and surveillance in a new novel, and working (slowly!) on a collection of short stories.<\/p>\n

Being part of the Academy has been amazing, gifting me focussed time to grow my short fiction skills and body of work, and incisive feedback from a community of brilliant short story writers. I’m excited to continue working with our cohort to develop our craft and practices further, and build on the supportive relationships the Academy fostered between us. I’m so grateful such a thing exists and that I was able to be a part of it.<\/p>\n
